What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression therapy is a wonderful treatment for people who suffer from spinal pain, herniated discs, sciatica, and other related conditions. This non-surgical procedure works by gently stretching the spine and creating negative pressure that helps to relieve pressure on the nerves and discs in the back. Spinal decompression therapy is a safe and effective alternative to surgery and medication, and it can provide long-term relief from chronic pain. This treatment is also non-invasive, which means that patients can avoid the risks and recovery time associated with surgery. Overall, spinal decompression therapy is a wonderful option for people who want to improve their quality of life by reducing pain and discomfort in their back.

What's the Research?

Incredible! One study documented by MRI up to 90% reduction of disc herniations in 10 of 14 cases and other studies repoorted that the majority of ruptured disc patients achieved “good” to “excellent” results ofter spinal decompression therapy.

Should I Be Getting Adjusted At The Same Time?

You should ALWAYS be getting adjusted. As your structure starts to take on a new pattern of movement and weight distribution, it is extremely important that you are getting adjusted to carry on the momentum of changes that are occurring at the foundational level of your body. In this protocol, we usually adjust our patients on every third visit.

Who Should Be Getting Spinal Decompression?

Anyone who has back pain or neck pain caused in whole or in part by a damaged disc may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. These conditions include:
  • Herniated discs
  • Protruding discs
  • Bulging discs
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Sciatica, leg pain
  • Leg numbness
  • Arm pain
  • Arm numbness
  • Radiculopathy (pinched nerves)

Spinal Decompression Protocol

Visit 1-3: Initial Assessment and Treatment Plan
During the first three visits, we’ll conduct a thorough assessment of your spinal and structural hygiene and identify any areas of concern. Based on the findings, we’ll develop a customized treatment plan to address your specific needs through targeted exercises.

Visit 4-7: Spinal Decompression Therapy Sessions will start to increase by increments of 2 – 10 lbs. based on what portion of the spine we are working on.

This treatment involves gently stretching the spine to create negative pressure within the discs, which can help promote healing and reduce pain. Each session will last around 20 minutes.

Visit 8-12: Transitioning segments. Once we’ve completed the initial portion of spinal decompression therapy, you can expect subtle positive changes to occur as they transition into a new position.

Visit 13-20: Strengthening and Maintenance. During the final seven visits, we’ll perform additional spinal decompression therapy sessions to continue the progress you’ve made so far.

Once completed, we will take an additional X-ray to document the amount of space gained at the level of the herniation. We will also monitor symptoms and provide guidelines on how to operate your improved biomechanics on a daily basis.

Spinal Decompression Protocol

What makes our treatments different?  We take pre and post treatment X-rays with a 20 session protocol to see changes along the way and adjust the treatments accordingly. This works well for chronic lower back pain, bulging and herniated disks.

“After a serious car accident in 2022, I suffered from back and neck pain, the most chronic pain I’ve ever felt. Couldn’t sleep, couldn’t find a comfortable position, couldn’t travel any distance sitting, couldn’t pick up my grandchildren, couldn’t walk upright. I mean serious pain to the point I couldn’t bear it anymore. The Ortho I was seeing pushed epidural injections that were both painful and expensive and offered only temporary relief. After five of them and a ton of prescriptions for pain management that left me feeling like a zombie, I was having some dark thoughts. I had no life anymore, no interest in anything, just depressed and hurting. The chiropractor I was referred to spent only a few minutes with me, and offered no long term solution other than topical remedies. Finally, I called DrPatel at Monahan’s. His staff are so friendly and compassionate, they truly care about the patients and the doctor REALLY listened to me. He let me cry, he understood that living in chronic pain isn’t living at all. He told me he wanted to help me, he promised to do everything he could to see that I could live a normal life again. I’m only 59, to young to suffer like that. He offered me cervical and lumbar decompression. He gave me a reasonable price, after all the injections alone were expensive and weren’t helpful and what price can you put on living a normal life? I immediately agreed to the decompression treatment and here I am one month later….a new woman. I have restored faith and hope in a future, I am loving life again. I am 80% improved and I’ve still got 5 treatments left. I am amazed I admit and so thankful that DrPatel had the compassion and the sincere desire to help me. He has a wonderful personality and treats all of his patients as if they were old friends. He is skilled and refuses to give up until he is successful in making a real difference. I thank him and his staff for giving me a new lease on life and health. I now sleep well and I’m once again able to function as a normal person, Happy, content and pain free. I strongly recommend DrPatel. He truly can change your life.”
